Critical Role Campaign 4 Reveals the Fighters Party
From the very beginning of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master the talented storyteller has kept viewers on edge with extensive world-building, a diverse cast of heroes, and a thrilling plot showcasing divine entities, evil spirits, and dark forces growing in power within the city.
Heads-up: Spoilers for the third episode of this adventure follow below.
The Combat-Oriented Party Revealed
Episode 3 ended with a huge suspense moment and revealed the first table of characters who will branch out from the central cast to undertake their separate journey, distinct from the remaining groups.
The Soldiers table consists of Teor (portrayed by Travis), the nimble rogue (the talented performer), the fierce warrior (the cast member), the cleric (Sam Riegel), and the mysterious adventurer (the actor).
Why Split the Party?
Given a large ensemble, it was obvious from the outset that having everyone at the same party would be unworkable.
That’s why, the first four episodes of the new season serve as an Prelude, intertwining the characters’ stories before splitting into three distinct groups: Warriors, Schemers, and Explorers.
The Nature of the Soldiers Table
According to Brennan Lee Mulligan, the Soldiers table is for participants who prefer a classically intense fight-heavy gameplay experience where non-violent answers are scarce.
At first glance, figures such as the reluctant priest the cleric might appear out of place, but the developments of episode 3 show why these specific adventurers are best suited for the Soldiers table.
Why They Must Go
First, the team has a clear idea where to go next after a intense first encounter with the enemy group.
A former ally of Thjazi Fang—whose passing started the narrative’s action—used The Crow Keepers for his selfish purposes, breaking into Thjazi’s hideout, attacking the rogue, and stealing all the magical artifacts to sell off.
Casimir then settled his debts and ran away to a Halovar stronghouse in the northern region, above the city, with Cyd hot on his heels.
Individual Reasons
Moreover, each character has a personal reason to leave the city the urban setting:
- The rogue, as Thjazi’s partner and closest confidant, wants retribution.
- Kattigan knows Timmony and cautions that it is a dangerous location.
- Tyranny and Wicander, having resisted his house’s orders to kill Teor and instead freed him, have no other options.
- But, their position as important members in the influential clan could assist the group enter places they usually can’t.
- Additionally, The grateful character swore a eternal obligation to The savior for his deliverance and will now accompany him everywhere.
Fugitives
Finally, all of them are wanted by the rulers that govern the setting for a range of causes, making lingering locally too risky:
- Thimble and The character are notorious outlaws.
- The warrior and The healer turned against House Halovar and the horde of evil beings they are allied with.
- Teor is wanted dead by the family.
This results in them few options but to journey toward Timmony in quest for the traitor.
Upcoming Developments
Based on episode three’s follow-up content, we learn that the combat party will be absent the following episode, leaving the rest of the participants to form the Questers and Strategists tables.
Audiences can expect learning which adventurers will be in which group in the season’s last Overture episode, released on October 24.
